Emergency Plumbing Repair in Ogden
An emergency repair has two halves. Stopping the water and making the house safe is the first, and it is fast. Repairing the failure properly, in a way that does not simply move the next failure a few feet along, is the second.
What to do right now
Do these first. None of them need tools or plumbing knowledge, and they limit what this ends up costing you.
Stop and get out if any of these are true
Water has reached an electrical panel, an outlet or an appliance and you cannot cut the power from a dry position. In that case leave the area, do not touch switches, and call from outside.
- Shut off the water at the mainIn most Ogden homes the main shutoff is where the supply line comes through the foundation wall, usually in the basement or crawlspace on the street side, often near the meter or the water heater. Turn it clockwise. If it will not move, do not force it, because an old gate valve can snap.
- Open the lowest tap in the houseOnce the main is off, open a basement or ground floor tap so the remaining pressure drains out rather than pushing water through the failure.
- Move what water can ruinLift boxes, rugs, electronics and anything sitting on a basement floor. Most of the cost of a plumbing emergency is damage to belongings rather than the repair itself.
- Photograph everything before you clean upPhotos and a short video of the water, the source and every damaged item. If you claim on insurance this is the evidence, and it cannot be recreated once the area is dry.

What a proper emergency repair involves
Cut out what failed, replace it in a material that suits the rest of the system, pressure test it, then look at whether the rest of that run is about to do the same thing.
The last step is the one that separates a repair from a patch. A pipe that failed because it froze usually has neighbours in the same unheated run that were stressed at the same time. A galvanised line that failed in one place is the same age everywhere else. Finding that out takes a few minutes and it is the difference between one visit and three.
Materials matter for the same reason. Putting new galvanised steel back into a corroded galvanised system moves the next failure a short distance down the pipe. We generally transition to copper or PEX at the repair, which costs no more and does not leave you with the same problem next winter.
Repair or replace
Repair, wherever the rest of the system is sound. Replacement is the right answer when the failure is a symptom of the whole run being finished, and we will show you why rather than assert it.
The genuine replace cases are narrow: a corroded galvanised run that is failing repeatedly, a sewer lateral that has collapsed rather than blocked, a water heater whose tank itself has gone through. Everything else is usually a repair.
Our technicians are not paid on commission, so nobody on the truck earns more by telling you that a repairable failure needs replacing. That is a structural point rather than a promise.
What emergency repairs cost
There is no diagnostic fee Monday to Friday before 4pm. After 4pm, at weekends and on holidays the diagnostic fee is $175, and that is credited toward the repair if you approve the work. Published prices for the common jobs are on the costs page, and whatever the hour you hear the price and agree to it before any work starts.
Access is the largest single factor. The same split costs very differently on an exposed basement run than inside a finished wall or under a slab. Material and the length of the failed section follow.
You hear the number and agree to it before any work starts.
Questions people ask about this
Will you fix it or just stop the leak?
Both, where the parts are available. Where they are not, the failure is isolated and capped tonight and the repair is completed in a single return visit.
Do you replace pipe like for like?
Not with galvanised steel. Putting new steel into a corroded steel system just relocates the next failure. We transition to copper or PEX at the repair.
How do I know the repair will hold?
The line is pressure tested before we leave, and you are shown the failed section that came out.
If that is not quite what you have
Not sure how urgent this is?
Describe what you can see and hear. We will tell you whether it needs someone tonight, and what to do in the meantime either way.
