Confirming it is the main
Run water in two fixtures on different branches and watch both. If using one affects the other, they share a blocked line downstream and the problem is the main.
The classic confirmations are a bath filling when a toilet is flushed, a basement floor drain rising when the washing machine empties, and a kitchen sink gurgling when a bathroom is used.
If nothing else responds, the blockage is local to that one fixture, which is a much simpler and cheaper job. Establishing which one you have before anyone attends is genuinely useful.
How a main line gets cleared
A drain machine with a cutting head is fed from the cleanout toward the obstruction. On a root mass the head cuts through and restores flow, and on grease or debris it breaks it up so it can pass.
Cabling restores flow but does not remove everything from the pipe walls. Where roots are the cause, cabling cuts them back and they regrow, which is why a line with root intrusion typically blocks again on a cycle of one to three years.
Hydro jetting scours the pipe walls properly rather than punching a hole through the blockage, and it is the better option where the line is sound enough to take it. A camera inspection first is what tells you whether it is.

Access matters. A line with an accessible exterior cleanout is straightforward. A house with no cleanout, which is common in older Ogden properties, may need access through a removed toilet, and that takes longer.
